Composed of beech bentwood frame on splayed legs, arched back supporting delicate turned spindles, with upswept curving arms and the characteristic exposed joints and dowels. Manufacturer's plate to base. (Manufacturer: Ercol, High Wycombe, British c.1978)
New Pirelli Webbing and new foam cushions and re-upholstery. A little wear to arms commensuate to vintage age.
Under the direction of Lucian Ercolani in the 1940s and 1950s, Ercol furniture produced a series of light, simple and subtle modern ‘Windsor’ designs that fitted easily into the Contemporary interiors of the small modern houses and flats then being built in new towns and housing estates around the country from the aftermath of the Second World War. The first examples of Ercol’s ‘new look’ ‘Windsor’ furniture were shown in 1946 at the ‘Britain Can Make It’ exhibition organized by the then recently formed Council of Industrial Design.
