Autumn Changes

“ …..Autumn changes

Shifting phases
Autumn changes
Turning stages

Surely something
Can help to patch it up …….”

(Donna Summer, ‘Autumn Changes’ from the album “Four Seasons of Love” 1976)

We have all lamented the passing of summer; whooped and been all buoyed up when we enjoyed a glimpse of an Indian Summer but we are now resigned to autumn and its changes.  I am not the first person to have noticed that the days are becoming shorter, the nights are drawing in and the shortest day stealthily approaches.

At times like this, I look to old Mother N for inspiration.  Autumn colour - well let’s celebrate and embrace the russet reds, oranges and browns.  A time when you gaze from the street into the windows of peoples houses at dusk (…… and please don’t tell me it’s just me who does that ..) and notice the lights on more on the inside than the natural light on the outside.  And so yes, “Surely something can help to patch it up” in the form of light, glorious lights !  Overhanging arc lights, standard floor lights, wall lights, table and bedside lights, warm light upon our crepuscular and nocturnal domestic activities.

Like Anne in 'Anne of Green Gables' (L M Montgomery 1908), let’s embrace October:
"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn't it? Look at these maple branches. Don't they give you a thrill--several thrills?”

Here is a selection of items that I hope will give you a thrill--several thrills.

All good wishes and keep sweeping those leaves !
